Welcome to the St John’s Parents’ Association or, as it is more commonly known, the 'SJPA’.
The SJPA is an important part of the St John’s School community and enhances the very important relationship between pupils, parents and staff. The ethos of the SJPA is to provide opportunities for everyone at St John’s to come together socially and at the same time raise funds for the Annual Fund.
The SJPA Annual Fund, a joint initiative between the School and the SJPA, allocates money raised at our events to fund projects within St John’s. The main criteria for allocation of these funds are that the projects should benefit as many in the School as possible.
We organise several SJPA events throughout the School calendar, which are very well attended by staff, parents and pupils.
At the beginning of the academic year we host an evening for new parents. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your son or daughter’s housemaster or housemistress, matron, tutors and staff in an informal, social setting in our beautiful Dining Hall, over a drink and canapés laid on by our wonderful catering team.
Our fantastic Christmas Fair heralds the festive season, where you can pop in from the hockey or rugby sidelines for a welcome mulled wine, turkey bap and mince pie. As well as Christmas cheer, you can have a go on the popular tombola, make excellent purchases from jewellery all the way through to ordering your high-quality Christmas tree! Just before we break for Christmas holidays, you can join us for what everyone considers to be the highlight of our events, our themed Christmas ball. Themes have spanned Downton Abbey’s great hall to a fabulous fifties cocktail bar. Be quick off the mark for this, as tickets sell out quickly! The Spring Term next year will include our inaugural presentation of ‘a day in the life of St John’s’, where we will showcase all aspects of the School, with a bit of a twist, in the Performing Arts Centre. In May, we have our fun sports day, where all staff, pupils, siblings and parents can participate in some of the great sports that St John’s has to offer. Choose from cricket to tennis, have a go at fives, a gentle game of croquet or just observe with a cool glass of Pimm’s!
We end the School year with a Musical Gala evening in June, which will feature our very best musicians. Enjoy a glass of fizz outside on the lawn accompanied by a little jazz, then on to an evening of wonderful entertainment over a meal in the newly refurbished cornerstone of St John’s, the Old Chapel.
The SJPA Committee consists of parents representing all academic years and houses. Please visit our website to look at what we do in more detail.
We really hope you will enjoy participating in the SJPA events and being part of the St John’s School community that we are happy to support.
