The St John’s sailing club entered its first schools’ championships regatta at Itchenor Sailing Club on 23 and 24 June 2014. The School’s boat was helmed by Charlotte Corbett (Lower Fifth, Gloucester House) and crewed by Emma Sinclair (Fourth Form, Gloucester House).
The competition consisted of 48 boats from 16 schools. The racing over the two days was very competitive and included teams from schools such as Kingham Hill, Hayling College and Portsmouth Grammar School, with a very long track record in competitive sailing.
Both Charlotte and Emma achieved a final placing of 19th overall. Pitched against schools who boasted sailors who have competed at national level, the St John’s team can be proud of the result. Head of Sailing, Mr Mooney, commented, ‘Our pupils have done well in this regatta and we look forward to more competitions in the new academic year.' The School's thanks go to Mr Corbett: without his outstanding support pupils would have been unable to compete in this event.'
