The School’s tour choir, due to be travelling to Prague shortly, was extremely fortunate to receive a workshop in early March from the acclaimed choral director Ralph Allwood, founder of the “Eton Choral Courses” and the Precentor at Eton College for 26 years. The tour choir has been rehearsing all term in preparation for the Prague trip, where they will perform a number of concerts and church services, one being at the Martinu Hall at the Academy of Performing Arts.
Ralph’s workshop gave the St John’s choir an insight into how to sing to the very best of their ability and the end result was very impressive indeed. Ralph then stayed on to adjudicate the fiercely contested annual Singing Competition. “This was a wonderful occasion where we were able to showcase our vocal forces and lift our ensemble singing to another level. We are extremely grateful to Ralph for his enthusiasm and energy and we all learnt a great deal from this experience,” said Nick Smith, Director of Music.
The results of the Singing Competition were: first place in the intermediate section went to Eleanor Chalk, while the senior was won by Andrew Terrafranca. In addition to these results, William Hey has been invited to sing with the Rodolfus Choir, one of the finest youth choirs in the country, directed by Ralph Allwood.
