England like their forwards to be big and rugged and, at 6ft 6in and 17st 11lb, George Kruis (Churchill House, left 2008) fits the bill in that regard, a grafting, no-nonsense second-row forward for Saracens, stepping seamlessly into the role filled for so long at the club by the former England captain Steve Borthwick, who retired in the summer.
The Guildford-born Kruis, 24, who is one of three uncapped players named in the 33-man Elite Player Squad, has been in the England reckoning for some time. He played for England Under-20s in 2010 and featured in all five matches in the Junior World Championship in Argentina the following summer, moving on to represent England Saxons in 2013 and 2014.
