The School’s annual confirmation service took place in the Chapel on Sunday 18 May. The bishop of Dorking, the Right Reverend Ian Brackley, confirmed 13 candidates in the presence of their families, teachers and friends.
There was a great sense of pride from all quarters of the Chapel as 12 pupils and one teacher were confirmed through prayer and the laying on of hands by the bishop.
Sunday’s ceremony also included the consecration of the new west window in the School Chapel by Reverend Brackley. The window, designed by Jude Tarrant, focuses on themes of war and its futility.
The window marks the centenary of the War, and stands as a poignant reminder of the fallen.
This beautiful new addition to the Chapel complements the east window, also designed by Tarrant, and features the symbolic poppy that came to represent the sacrifice of those who fought in the First World War and subsequent conflicts.
The theme of remembrance is also signified by the inscription on the bottom right hand corner of the window from Psalm 23: Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for you are with me.
The two events combined made for a very enjoyable evening for those who attended.
