The concert was a wonderful mix of solo, small ensemble and large ensemble performances, demonstrating the School’s breadth and depth of talent. Joshua Geddes (piano), Emily Hart (violin) and Alexander Semple (violin) each gave stunning solo performances.
Emily and Alexander also joined Anna Semple and Charlotte Corbett for a string quartet performance of one of Mozart's quartets. This ensemble formed at the start of the year, but already plays with amazing maturity, helped in part by the wonderful coaching of our violin teacher Ruth Palmer.
The Schola Cantorum finished off the first half with beautiful repertoire sung to perfection, under the watchful direction of Simon Bland.
Fortified by the first mulled wine of the season, the audience returned to hear both the Jazz Band and Big Band play a selection of popular tunes. The inclusion of 'Let it Go' from the Disney film frozen was unavoidable, yet sung with great style by Charlotte Corbett and Sophie Brewer.
This is a busy term, with still much to do, so it was a delight to relax, albeit briefly, and remember how talented our musicians are.
