The School is delighted to announce the installation of a new Chaplain at St John’s. Reverend Charlie Moloney was licensed by Ian Brackley, the Bishop of Dorking, during evening prayer on Tuesday 21 April.
A previous teacher of religious studies at Tonbridge School, Revd Charlie studied for ordination in Cambridge at Ridley Hall and was ordained in 2009 - the same year he married his wife Charlie. After becoming ordained, he worked for a group of churches in Retford, a small town in Nottinghamshire.
During his first Chapel service at St John’s, Revd Charlie talked about the importance of education – and how so many of the world’s problems could be solved through better education. He also reminded the congregation that while our achievements are important, it is our values that make us who we are, quoting author Henri Nouwen:
“We are living in a culture that measures the value of the human person by degrees of success and productivity … Fruitfulness on the spiritual life is about love and this fruitfulness is very different from success or productivity.”
Revd Charlie and his wife bring with them to St John’s two young children, Rory, aged three, and one-year-old Matilda. Knowing he is a lover of cricket, football and rugby, we look forward to having Revd Charlie on the side lines cheering on our sports teams during the coming terms and welcoming him with his family into the St John’s community.
