St John’s welcomed HRH Princess Alexandra to the School on 24 April, as part of a 30th anniversary celebration for local charity The Brigitte Trust.
The Trust helps people and their families come to terms with life-threatening illnesses, and offers a volunteer service of emotional support and home help. The Trust’s 100 volunteers visit families throughout Surrey and West Sussex.
Her Royal Highness, accompanied by Dame Sarah Goad, was greeted by Headmaster Martin Collier at the Old Chapel, where she met volunteers, staff and patrons of the trust, as well as local families who have been helped by the charity. Family member Lucy Drummond presented the Princess with a posy, a plaque was unveiled and a celebration cake cut. The School’s string quartet provided entertainment during the event, and the Princess made a special request to be introduced to the musicians.
CEO of The Brigitte Trust, Catherine Hodgson, said, “The music and the setting were just wonderful. The talented members of the quartet were a real credit to St John’s and made our event perfect.”
