Athletics may be a summer sport at St John’s, but the season is far from over for Alexa Eichelmann (Upper Fifth, South), who finished third last weekend in the National Combined Event Final in Bedford.
Competing in the inter girls’ heptathlon, Alexa worked her way up the rankings as the seven-event discipline wore on. A strong performance of over 12m in the shot helped her cause immensely, along with a personal best in the hurdles.
Lining up for the final event, the 800m, Alexa was lying in seventh, with less than 70 points (approximately six seconds) separating third to seventh. A strong runner, Alexa did enough to haul herself up the table and into the bronze medal winning position.
Alexa has also gained selection to represent England at the SIAB International competition, to be held in Glasgow later in the year.
