On Sunday 11 October, a group of St John’s pupils competed at the K2 Biathlon in Crawley, in the hope of making it to the national Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships.
All entrants completed a 200m swim and a 1600 run in the competition (formerly the Surrey Schools’ Championships), with their times converted to points and totalled up. Martha Hansford (Lower Fifth, Gloucester) was the School’s highest ranking girl, coming 6th place in the U16 girls’ category.
Ben Simpson (Lower Fifth, West), Ed Reed (Lower Fifth, Surrey) and Tom Shepherd (Lower Fifth, Surrey) also excelled, with Ben leading the boys home individually through a fine performance in the pool to beat Whitgift and Hampton to the team title in the U15 boys’ category.
All competitors will now wait and see if they have made the national final, which will be held at the Olympic Park in April 2016.
