On Monday 2 November, pupils from the School’s politics society took part in a video conference with Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Paul Givan, of the Northern Ireland Democratic Unionist Party.
During the conference, pupils quizzed Mr Givan on the fragile political situation following the murder of Kevin McGuigan and how the electoral system allows for cross community communication between the differing parties of Northern Ireland.
Mr Givan gave a great insight into politics in Northern Ireland and presented his views on the electoral system and the future of politics in the country.
Teacher of Politics at St John’s Mark Sartorius commented: ‘We were privileged to have been given the chance to speak with Mr Givan. It was a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to discuss political issues with an MLA.”
