The School’s netballers have gotten off to a tremendous start this term, with all 10 netball teams beating Ardingly College at the weekend.
The 1st VII, captained by Charlotte Thompson (Upper Sixth, Haslewood) clinched a 44-12 victory on Saturday 30 January, adding to their wins against Churcher’s College (21-17) and Sutton Valence (32-16). Charlotte and Player of the Match Jasmin Cornish (Lower Sixth, Gloucester) were on fine shooting form and Charlotte made some spectacular shots in the final quarter, scoring from anywhere in the circle.
The U16A girls are undefeated so far this season. After four previously close encounters with Epsom in the last two years, the girls cruised to a 31-21 victory on their first outing of 2016, and were named ‘team of the week’ as a result.
The 4th VII should also be applauded for their incredible 63-1 win against Sutton Valence on 16 January. Louise Barr (Lower Sixth, South), Hope MacMillian (Upper Fifth, Haslewood) and Georgia Cowpe (Lower Sixth, South) should be commended for their consistent and relentless goal scoring.
Netball Coach and Assistant Director of Sport (Lower School), Kerry Walsh, commented: ‘The latest results against Ardingly College are fantastic, and show how hard the girls have been working in training. The 1st VII are getting stronger every week, and the younger teams are coming on leaps and bounds, demonstrating great enthusiasm and determination to succeed on court. We hope to build on these recent successes and I’m excited to see how the girls progress.’
