The St John’s cricket club got their 2016 season off to a flying start on Saturday. St John’s were victorious in all matches played against Reigate Grammar and showed that their winter training had been the perfect preparation.
There were notable performances with the bat from Matthew Denley 54* in the 1st XI and Matt Evans 74 in the U15b’s. The standout bowling performance of the weekend must go to Toby Gray in the U14b team, he produced figures of 4 overs, 6 wickets for just 9 runs. There were many other highlights from St John’s cricketers in various teams, including four stumpings from U14a wicket keeper Harry Mead.
Head of Cricket at St John’s David Hammond commented: "This is an encouraging start for all teams but there is no time for complacency; this week sees the 1st XI play The Forty Club and the U15a team make their debut in The National T20 competition at home to Howard of Effingham."
