National Fencing Tournament

One of the School’s Lower Sixth pupils represented St John’s over the course of the bank holiday weekend, competing in the British Youth Fencing Championship Finals at the EIS in Sheffield.

Harry Butler (West House) entered the tournament having qualified fourth in the South East heats earlier this year. He was placed in a tough group for the U18 Epee competition, coming up against seven current GB players. Harry showed great determination and had some very close matches on the day.

Lauren Moors, Director of Sport at St John’s, commented: ‘We are all really proud of Harry for putting St John’s on the map in a sport that is relatively new to us as a school, hopefully next year we can build on his success.’
