On Monday 13 June, 15 of the School’s Lower Fifth design and technology pupils were invited to visit a local business in Dorking that specialises in the manufacturing of moulded plastic products.
Broanmain Plastics have particular expertise in injection moulding, compression and transfer moulding of both thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics. Pupils witnessed a number of industrial processes which are directly relevant to their GCSE curriculum, and which are either difficult or impossible for them to experience at school.
Head of Design and Technology at St John’s, Jason Ward, commented: “We are very grateful to all the staff at Broanmain Plastics who welcomed us so warmly and dedicated so much of their valuable time showing us around their facility and answering the pupils’ questions. It was a real pleasure to hear the personal insight of the Managing Director Wilf Davis, and for the pupils to find out about these processes and products directly from the experts.”
