The School was deeply saddened on receipt of the news that Ken Durham had passed away on 6 August aged 62.
Ken was a boarder in North House from 1966 to 1971 before going up to Brasenose College, Oxford as an Exhibitioner to read PPE. He subsequently enjoyed a distinguished career in education which included 17 years as Headmaster of University College School (UCS) in Hampstead and the chairmanship of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference in 2011/12. Many members of staff, parents and pupils will remember Ken as the guest of honour at the St John’s Speech Day in June 2014.
Ken became a member of the Governing Council in 2014 and was Chair of the Council’s Education Committee at the time of his death. His advice was invaluable, his contribution outstanding.
A private funeral is planned and it is expected that a Memorial Service will be held at UCS. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ken’s widow Vivienne.
