St John’s pupil excels on local stage

One of the School’s Lower Sixth pupils has been showcasing her talent on stage this summer, performing in the YESOS Musical Theatre production of Children of Eden at Redhill’s Harlequin Theatre.

Charlotte Coe (Gloucester House) took part in the show from Thursday 4 August to Saturday 6 August, alongside cast mates from Reigate Grammar, St Bede’s Redhill and Danes Hill.

The show, written by the creator of Godspell and Wicked Stephen Schwartz, is based on the first nine books of Genesis and tells the story of Creation, moving on to the banishment of Adam and Eve, through the tragic story of Cain and Abel before ending with the triumphant tale of Noah’s Ark.

Essential Surrey and SW London reviewed Charlotte Coe as “simply stunning as the curious wife of Adam who succumbs to temptation after a visit from the snake, and also as the wiser, stronger Mama Noah in the second act. Coe’s vocals – which would not have been out of place on any West End stage – were flawless throughout from the haunting ‘Children of Eden’ to the glorious gospel of ‘Ain’t of Good’.”
