The School’s athletes have continued to excel during the summer holidays, with a number of pupils selected to represent Surrey at various events.
Peter Sinclair (Fourth Form, East) and Alexa Eichelmann (Upper Fifth, South) both competed in the Combined Events, with both pupils qualifying for September’s National Final.
Three St John’s pupils also made the trip to Gateshead for the English Schools’ Championships, alongside thousands of the country’s top young athletes. Selection for the event is a tough process, with only 60 athletes making the cut at county level.
Ellie Grove (Upper Fifth, Gloucester) raced the inter girls’ 200m and 4x100 relay, Alexa Eichelmann shone in the inter girls’ pole vault and Megan McInnes (Upper Sixth, Haslewood) competed in the senior girls’ pole vault. All performed well, with Ellie securing not only the gold in the relay, but with the team breaking the long-standing meet record.
Jumping just shy of her personal best, Alexa not only took the bronze medal, but qualified for the UK Games in the process, where she will represent the South East.
