The School’s 1st XV have completed a successful pre-season rugby tour of South Africa, remaining unbeaten throughout and clocking seven wins from seven matches.
32 players, three staff and one physiotherapist completed three days of training at school before departing Heathrow in late July, venturing first to Cape Town before progressing along the Garden Route. The team stopped off in Kynsna before moving onto Port Elizabeth and East London.
Head of Rugby at St John’s, Chris Roberts, commented: “This was my third school tour to South Africa, and I have come to expect both excellent hospitality and very tough rugby - we got both. The St John's lads were exceptional on and off the field and comments were made about our style of rugby as well as the character shown.
He continued: “I am very proud of all involved, they were superb ambassadors of their families, the School and the country. There is no doubt that this is a special bunch of boys and this tour will set us up well for the season.”
