This weekend saw the first ever U12 fixtures to be played by a St John's collective. Two rugby teams and three hockey teams played against Colfe's and Royal Russell respectively in what proved to be a historical day for St John’s sport.
Our boys fought valiantly against a strong Colfe's side renowned for their rugby talent. The A team, though trailing at half time, showed spirit and determination beyond their years to fight back and draw the game 10-10. A loss in their opening game was a steep learning curve for our B team, but considering some players had never played rugby before it was a promising start for this talented age group.
The girls managed to put out an impressive three sides and credit to the goalkeepers who, having never played in goal before, were absolutely outstanding. The A team looked as if they had been playing together for years with an incredible 9-0 victory. This was well supported by a B team win of 6-0 and an unlucky 1-4 loss by the C team. A fantastic start for our young Eagles.
Lauren Moors, Director of Sport at St John’s, commented: “Saturday was a very proud day for the Lower School, and a momentous day for St John's - our young Eagles have landed.”
