The School’s U18 hockey players have been crowned Surrey hockey champions, after a tense final against Cranleigh School on Monday evening.
Having gone down 1-0 just before half-time it was all to play for in the second half. The girls did not give up and dealt with an extraordinary amount of pressure whilst creating some great chances for themselves.
Eventually, the Eagles found the equaliser and scored a second straight after. Going into the final minute the score stood at 2-1 to St John's, when Cranleigh won a corner. It was scored and flicks awaited to see who would emerge victorious.
Some incredible composure from outfield players and the St John’s keeper, Louisa Bray (Upper Sixth, Gloucester), meant that the School walked away from flicks winning 4-3. Director of Sport Lauren Moors commented: “An outstanding achievement from a very talented group of girls, after an exceptionally tough outing.”
