On Wednesday 7 December the St John’s Lower School choir gave their first major performance in front of a packed audience at St Mary Abbots Church, Kensington.
The year 7 pupils were taking part in the annual Hope and Homes for Children Christmas carol concert at the church, and performed for an audience of over 600 people. Conducted by St John’s singing teacher Rebecca Greeson, the choir sang four pieces, including Bob Chilcott’s ‘Midwinter’ and John Rutter’s ‘Children’s Carol’. The concert also included readings by actresses Ruth Jones and Emilia Fox.
Head of Lower School at St John’s, Caroline Finnegan, commented: “Having had only eight weeks of rehearsals, the choir performed exceptionally well. There were so many comments afterwards about the extraordinary beauty of our choir – in such a short time they have showed to be a real credit to the School, and we are immensely proud.”
