St John’s celebrates the European Day of Languages

On Wednesday 18 January the School celebrated the European Day of Languages. St John’s pupils and staff were treated to a European lunch in the Dining Hall and to a cheese tasting session in the Library. In language lessons pupils were presented with key facts regarding the importance of studying languages in our global economy. Throughout the week there are opportunities to demonstrate use of French, Spanish and German through a poetry competition.

Najet Byrne, Head of French, commented: “The European Day of Languages is always a fun and engaging day celebrating the richness of European languages and culture. It’s important that we are aware that English is not the most commonly used language in the world and that by speaking another language pupils are much more employable.”
