St John's had the privilege of hosting the Surrey U12 County Hockey Tournament on 9 February. The Young Eagles team were eager and ready to perform. They stormed their group with wins against St Teresa's, Freemans, WPS and Reigate (3-0,3-0,6-0,2-0). An exceptional display of teamwork and skill saw six of our girls on the score sheet.
St John's played a spirited Prior's Field in the semi-finals. After a close match, the game went to flicks for the win. Eloise Jansa, Molly Wolff and Sophie Clemett stepped up and bravely volunteered to take a shot for the team and scored one flick. Jamie Burrage in goal made an excellent save to put St John's in the lead. The shootout went the Eagles way with a 2-0 victory, setting up a final versus St George's.
Having lost to them in the domestic season 6-0, the team were determined to prove their progress. The girls gave it their all, pushing St George's defences. Excellent saves from Amy Brunton kept our hopes alive, but St George's scored just before halftime.
The Eagles dominated possession in the second half but just couldn't get a shot through St George's strong defence. The final score was 1-0 to the opposition.
Director of Sport Lauren Moors was thrilled with the outcome. "To achieve a county final in our first attempt and secure a place at regionals was an excellent outcome and we are very proud of the Lower School team!"
