On Monday 27 February St John's was pleased to hold our first Year 5 and 6 netball tournament. 12 teams entered with over 120 girls between the ages of 9 and 11 participating.
St John’s hosted, allowing coaches and teachers to focus on supporting their team. The standard of play was high with tremendous skill shown on the court. Natalie Swift was impressed and awarded 11 girls an MVP prize of a bespoke individual masterclass here at St John’s.
The first round of the tournament allowed teams to settle in against new opposition. Matches were close between the Year 6 teams; Micklefield beat Bute House B team by one goal, Putney High beat The Study by one goal (3-2). Year 5 matches were also competitive with Kew Green Prep narrowly beating St Paul’s in a 2-1 victory. Micklefield and Putney High drew one all.
Round 2 of the tournament intensified competition between Year 6 teams. Bute House A team stormed the competition and were worthy winners of the Year 6 Winners Cup. The Study worked hard to finish second place, and Micklefield played Putney High to win the Plate. The Plate final was a fierce match played with gusto and determination.
The Year 5 competition was equally exciting with Putney High finishing in third place. Bute House and The Study delivered an intense match with Bute House narrowly taking the Year 5 Winners Cup.
The tournament was a great success with some truly fabulous feedback from parents and teachers. We look forward to hosting the tournament next year with the next crop of talented netballers.
