GCSE Results 2017

St John’s is celebrating the stellar results from our GCSE pupils who attained the highest results in the School's history. 40% achieved A* (2016 was 31%) and 73% gained A*- A grades (2016 was 67%). The pupils excelled across all disciplines and are an excellent reflection on the academic standing of the School.

There were many outstanding individual performances; 42% of the year group achieved five A* grades or better, 26 pupils attained eight or more A* grades. Seven pupils achieved ten A* grades: Alexander Semple, Darcy Barnes, Saskia Hawkins, Charles Hellier, Lia Hutchinson, Nico Orr and Yousef Osman.

The successes of notable all-round achievers should also be celebrated. Alexander Semple combined his studies with being a member of the National Youth Orchestra as did Libby Thornton who gained nine A*s. Charlie Bennett (eight A*s) and Tom Shepherd (five A*s) were part of the St John’s swimming team that won the national Dunelm Cup. Lucie Bishop achieved five A*s, alongside playing for England U16s hockey team and Jack Potter (also five A*s) plays rugby for Harlequins Academy.

“These results are an outstanding achievement for the pupils of St John’s and are a reflection of their aspiration and hard work, coupled with the support of their teachers,” commented the Head Rowena Cole. “That so many excellent results have been received by pupils who are also performing at a high level in areas outside the classroom is a reflection of the truly rounded and outstanding education on offer at St John’s. I warmly congratulate all the pupils on their efforts and results. Our pupils excelled across all disciplines and are an excellent reflection on the academic standing of the School.”
