The curriculum at St John’s is regularly reviewed and updated, not only to reflect changes to GCSE and A level qualifications but, more importantly, to ensure it is relevant and engaging for our pupils. This drives our agenda in all discussions regarding the curriculum.
We offer breadth in the lower years of the School and demand excellence throughout. In the Sixth Form, we believe an education at St John’s is a preparation for life beyond the A level courses. Therefore, although the three or four A levels studied are undoubtedly the academic priority, the EPQ and other non-examined courses offer the opportunity to enrich and extend The Sixth Form learning experience for our pupils.
The new linear A level qualifications prioritise the following skills: researching, finding sources, essay writing, problem solving, analysis and critical thinking. At St John’s, from Lower School with our innovative Think! programme, through to Fourth Form with our Critical Thinking programme, right up to our tailor-made Sixth Form programme, we nurture such skills and build links across the different disciplines.
