My St John's

OJ Rugby Club

OJRFC are Recruiting!

Remember that feeling when you put on the green & white, ran out on the pitch with your team mates, delivered a hard fought win and then celebrated with your buddies over a few pints? If you thought those days were in the past, then think again. From September this year you can still get that feeling every weekend by playing for Old Johnian RFC.

Things that will interest you about OJ RFC

  • We have a squad spanning all shapes and sizes and all standards from 1998 to 2013
  • We have been promoted every year since we reformed in 2012 - we now sit in Surrey 3
  • We tour, yes, we tour
  • We play a game at the School in October
  • We're not scary people, pop along to training on a Wednesday night (at Wimbledon RFC) and find out
  • We have coaches, trainers and a physio (all OJs)
  • We WIN
  • We WIN well

If this interests you, why don't you drop a couple of your mates a line and see if they're also keen. If they are - 'hurrah'! Next step is the BIG one - get in touch.

Even though you don't know us and we don't know you, we share a unique bond in St John’s and we all know Butch. Trust me when I say this, as soon as you spend two minutes with the guys you'll think you've known them for ages.

Inaugural Charity Touch tournament

Sunday 16 July 2017 saw OJ RFC host its inaugural Charity Touch tournament. More than 100 supporters showed up of all ages, shapes and sizes!

16 teams entered and it was great to see Old Johnians of all different ages together on the pitch, particularly the recent leavers and not so recent leavers 'vets'.

In the end, much to some people's dismay (Churchillians), West House Legends came away with the spoils after defeating Wimbledon Strollers in the final.

The two sides could not be separated after full time and finished two tries apiece. After much convincing from the enthusiastic crowd, we went to drop kicks where West House Legends (plus some ringers) calmly slotted home the pill.

Big thanks to VC James Duncan for the massive effort he put into organising this.

It was also fantastic to see George Kruis down to support, fresh off the plane from New Zealand.

Most importantly, more than £500 (+ €6) was raised in the process for the Air Ambulance service, a charity close to OJ RFC's hearts 🚁

Hopefully this will become an annual fixture in the calendar and give us OJs another chance to get together for a few beers in the summer.

We are also recruiting! If you fancy a run out, dust off the boots, grab a mate and come down to training, everyone's welcome!
