The Head's Message

Welcome to St John's School, Leatherhead.

As soon as you walk through the door into St John's you immediately sense the warmth and purpose that pervades our school. From the historic architecture to the infectious enthusiasm of staff and pupils this is a welcoming and exciting school in which to belong.

All children have untold potential that will emerge and prosper with the appropriate opportunity and suitable encouragement. The strength of a St. John's education is that we have the expertise to do this, not only in the pursuit of academic excellence but through the experiences we provide to develop wider talents and interests.  In our classrooms you will find teachers with a genuine love for and expertise in their subjects who thrive on sharing their knowledge. Beyond the classroom, the opportunities we offer are exceptional in every sphere and help to set our pupils apart in the development of their character, values and confidence.

We expect St John's pupils to be courageous and aspirational in their approach to life, knowing that to achieve real satisfaction we each need to be prepared to try things beyond our comfort zone. Our exceptional pastoral care provides pupils with the support and guidance to achieve more than they might have imagined possible and to be able to try new things in a secure, safe and encouraging environment.

St John's was founded in 1851 to provide education for the sons of the poor clergy. Our school has always been progressive, adapting over time to now provide an excellent education for boys and girls aged 11-18. Although we have changed with the times and the needs of the families we educate, our core values of courtesy, respect and tolerance hold true.

We are truly proud of the decent young men and women who leave our school. They are open minded and open hearted, but strong enough in their convictions and confidence to stand up for what they believe in and ambitious enough to make a positive and outstanding contribution in their adult lives.

I look forward to welcoming you to St John's.
