All Sixth Form students have the chance to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. They also are given the opportunity to join the Combined Cadet Force (CCF). The CCF at St John’s thrives: every Thursday afternoon the Army, RAF and Royal Navy cadets undertake training which is put into practice on field days and trips throughout the year.
The huge range of trips and tours on offer is a defining feature of the Sixth Form experience. St John’s pupils help capture rhinos in a South African game reserve, dive on the Great Barrier Reef whilst on a sports tour in Australia, ride camels in the Sahara and get very wet on Dartmoor as part of their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. They travel widely on academic trips from North Africa to Eastern Europe.
Music and drama are tremendously important to the life of the School. Through the course of the year, Sixth Form pupils perform in a multitude of music concerts and drama productions. The choir is especially strong as are other music ensembles. If involved, you might sing in Southwark Cathedral or act at the Edinburgh Festival. In addition, there is a full weekly programme of clubs and societies that you can enjoy.
