Yet again, term has started as busy as ever for us here at St John's. However, all is not as it once was, with the exciting introduction of a new Lower School. Our youngest pupils have taken the School by storm – their first days at St John's have included kite-flying on the Quad, trying their hand at countless sports and having a few cuddles with Razzie, the 'resident' golden retriever!

The Lower School induction trip saw our 54 Lower Third pupils head off to Swanage, Dorset, for three days of activities, teambuilding and glamping. Head of Lower School Caroline Finnegan commented: "The trip was a great success. Staff thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the pupils better and are looking forward to a successful and happy first term in the Lower School."

The Autumn Term is a hectic one, with UCAS applications due and prospective pupil application deadlines approaching. You can find out more about these on the Admissions pages of our website. On Friday 30 September (5.00 – 7.00pm) and Saturday 1 October (9.00 – 11.00am) we are hosting our whole-school open events, and would love to see you there. During these events, boarding houses, classrooms and facilities are on show, with tours given by current pupils. The Headmaster and pupils will talk at 5.30 and 6.15pm on Friday and 9.30 and 10.15am on Saturday. No booking is necessary for these whole-school events.

The selection process for a new Head is well underway. We have published a brief for the position of Head at St John's. This can be viewed on the School's website. Initial interviews will commence in early October and continue into November. We remain confident that we shall be able to announce a new Head before the end of December.

We are pleased to welcome ex-Scotland international hockey player William Marshall to the St John's teaching staff. With 146 caps for his country and trips to two Commonwealth Games, William brings with him many years' coaching experience.
